  • Welcome to the Master in International Tourism

Hello, great that you are here!

Here you can ask any question about the Master in International Tourism programme, tell us about yourself, and get a feedback on your profile recommending whether or not to apply to the Master in International Tourism.

    • What can you do?

    • Who are we?

Back in 2003, the Master in International Tourism was founded by Prof. Dr. Rico Maggi and kicked off with 8 students.

The Master in International Tourism was founded because the International Tourism industry needs skilled and creative managers who…

      • understand how to tackle sustainability challenges of tourism impacts on societies
      • master various ways of critical thinking needed for solving complex problems in tourism
      • change quickly between the various perspectives of tourists, residents, and service providers

…to create a sustainable future of travel and tourism.

By now, more than 300 students have participated in our Master programme, hailing from over 50 countries. The USI Master in International Tourism gives you a strong foundation in communication, economics, and management skills specifically applied to the international tourism industry.

Now let's tell you a little about ourselves...

Hello, nice to meet you! I am Prof. Dr. Rico Maggi, the scientific coordinator of the Master in International Tourism, and full professor at the Faculty of Economics at USI Università della Svizzera italiana. Within the USI Master in International Tourism programme I am teaching the courses Tourism Economics, Economics of Transport and Mobility, Architecture and Tourism, and the Study Tour week to a European city destination. Besides, I am teaching Microeconomics in the Bachelor of Economics at USI. Currently, I am president of the Swiss Association for Transport Research and was member of the board of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and of the Marcel Benoist’s Foundation. Between 2009 - 2013 I was Dean of USI's Faculty of Economics. My research interests focus on tourism, transport, as well as urban and regional development. Over the years, I have published many articles in international academic journals, and I regularly serve as referee for international academic journals on tourism. Let me now introduce you to Eva, our programme coordinator of the Master in International Tourism:

Hi there! I am Eva, programme coordinator and alumna of the multidisciplinary USI Master in International Tourism. At the same time, I am a PhD student at the Faculty of Economics, working at USI's Institute for Economic Research. I hold an USI Master’s degree in Economics and Communication – Major in International Tourism, studied Tourism Management in New Zealand as part of my Bachelor’s degree in Public Management and Law at Tilburg University, and gained tourism work experience in the Netherlands. My main research interests are behavioural economics and tourist behaviour, tourist psychology, and innovative travel products focussing on personal development. My PhD research project (in progress) investigates the effects of vacations on vacationers.

We are looking forward to getting to know you better!
